Quote of the Day

Peace and justice are two sides of the same coin.
Dwight D. Eisenhower

Amen.
Generally (at least in the past) I thought of justice in a balancing act with mercy.  Grace and truth seem to pull in different directions, though from some perspective they actually do not.  It is gracious to uphold the truth, and merciful to bring judgement on the unjust.
Here justice and peace are one.  Where all are treated fairly, would there be peace?  That is the kingdom of God, but grace must come first.  Only with the grace of God can there be justice, and peace follows right behind.

So in my unresolved questions about becoming a pacifist (or at least generally anti-war and -violence), it seems unreasonable to pursue a peaceful society without a just society, and unreasonable to expect justice without the grace of Christ.  Therefore, the gospel is our banner:  the good news of a Jesus who cared for the spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional needs of broken human beings.
