I hope that most of the things that seemed completely unnecessary in Paolini's 3rd installment of the Inheritance Cycle actually end up meaning something for the 4th book.

I really liked the first and the second books but was hesitant to read the third, since there is going to be a fourth and what is the point of reading four books in a trilogy? Maybe Paolini needed a downpayment for his first home.

he claims there was too much story to fit into one book, and that splitting it up gave him more room for character development. I'm just not sure how much of his "character development" was necessary, or was actually developing my understanding of the characters.

All in all it was actually a very enjoyable read. I don't mean to sound so entirely negative!
