to know and believe

Quote of the Day
The less you know, the more you believe.
Bono

In general, I like Bono. He's done good things for music and the church. But I'm not convinced by this statement. It's probably taken out of context, but standing alone it doesn't match the experience of my adult life.

It's probably true that as I child I knew little and believed much. But to what extent do you learn as a child simply by believing. I know that the sky is blue today because someone I trusted taught me that the color was called blue, and I believed them. But I digress.

As an adult, I've found that I learn more and more the older I get. I know more now than I did yesterday, even in very small ways. I read some news this hour that I didn't know before.

I also find that the longer I walk as a disciple of Jesus, the more I believe.

So my growth in knowledge and belief basically grow together as I age.

I suppose this doesn't really discount the quote, which implies that where there is a lack of knowledge belief is required. Maybe I read it wrong. But it's been a long time since I've done a quote of the day. It was time. And "everything is beautiful in its time" (to misuse another completely out of context quote).
