In intro linguistics courses, submitting a final project about conlangs definitely thrusts you into the geek category. I have to admit I've graded some pretty impressive projects on Elvish, Esperanto, and the history of constructed languages, though.

I'm an Esperanto speaker, so I suppose I'm a geek too.
I don't care. Esperanto is both useful and practical.
