There is a long straight sidewalk in front of my apartment complex, and I must traverse the length of it. Part way down the sidewalk, I began to notice the way that my steps occasionally placed my feet on the cracks in the sidewalk. And I immediately began calculating the difference in frequency. I imagined how I might plot the cracks in the sidewalk with Dirac delta functions -- basically pulses -- and my steps as a square wave from -1 to 1. I could overlay the plots...
And I think I actually got that far before I realized how incredibly overthetop nerdy that thought process was.
As it turns out, I took five sets of steps for every 6 divisions of the sidewalk.
